Care & Support

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.
He rescues them from all of their troubles.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalm 34:17-18

Everyone faces tough times in their lives. Everyone. Jesus even told us, “here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” It is the nature of this fallen world. When the hard stuff happens, when you feel lost and alone, when you are up against something you cannot handle on your own, Community Bible Church is here to help.

Sometimes a group setting is the most beneficial, such as with 12-step recovery, divorce care, or grief support. Other times, you may need one-on-one assistance or counseling, like when making funeral arrangements or when dealing with mental health issues. Whatever the struggle, CBC provides support through a network of ministries with trained volunteers as well as professional and community resources.

Don’t go it alone. Let us walk with you through the valley, and with Jesus, guide you to the other side. That’s what community is all about.

If you are concerned that you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of depression, here is an online assessment which can help you determine whether depression is present: Click here for Depression Inventory

If your score indicates signs of moderate to severe depression, please speak with a mental health professional or physician. Here is a list of professionals in our community, including Christian counselors and psychiatrists: Click here for Professional Counselor Referrals

If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact your physician or go to your nearest hospital emergency room or dial 9-1-1 for emergency assistance.

Groups for Personal Growth & Healing

Although we are wounded through relationships, we also are healed through relationships. Recovery, Support, and Mental Health groups offer biblical hope, practical help, and Spirit-fueled healing in a safe, non-judgmental environment. They are opportunities to learn, grow, and get the support you need in a community where everyone is dealing with similar struggles.

Leadership Training

Are you seeking an opportunity to unlock your God-given potential, be equipped to help others grow through life’s challenges, have fun, build lifelong relationships, and dive deeply into the life of Community Bible Church? If so, consider enrolling in Wise Counsel, Care & Support’s 13-week core training program. Through this transformational class, you’ll be better equipped for effective ministry in the spirit of Ephesians 4:11-16—which encourages us to “equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church . . . so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”

What is Wise Counsel about?
Wise Counsel helps you see yourself in the context of God’s divine design and purpose for your life. Spirit-led teaching helps you grow in your relationship with God. Powerful assessments provide revealing insights into yourself and others. A three-step counseling technique helps you respond effectively to hurting people who come to you for care and support. Authentic small-group interaction provides a springboard for long-term relationships. And carefully selected resource lists put practical people-helper tools at your fingertips.

How does Wise Counsel work?
At the first class, you’ll be assigned to a small group for the duration of the program. Two-hour classes consist of homework review and group discussion, facilitated by a trained “table leader;” expert talks on the topic of the week; and occasional videos and guest speakers. Required homework takes about 30 minutes to an hour each day to complete, 5 days a week. Classes begin January 15, 2019.

For more information, call 210-477-5173 or e-mail leadershiptraining@cbc.email. “ Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” (Ephesians 4:11-16, NLT)
